And [by] the day when it displays it |

By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; |

And [by] the sky and He who constructed it |

And the heaven and Him Who made it, |

By the heaven and Him Who builded it, |

by the sky and how He built it |

And [by] the earth and He who spread it |

By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, |

wanafsin wama sawwaha |

By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; |

And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it |

And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, |

By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, |

by the soul and how He formed it, |

ﭬ ﭭ ﭮﭯ
Transliteration |
faalhamaha fujooraha wataqwaha |

And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- |
Saheeh International |
And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, |
Shakir |
Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; |

And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, |

then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. |

|
ﭰ ﭱ ﭲ ﭳﭴ
Transliteration |
qad aflaha man zakkaha |
|---|---|
Yusuf Ali |
Truly he succeeds that purifies it, |
Saheeh International |
He has succeeded who purifies it, |
Shakir |
He will indeed be successful who purifies it, |
Daryabadi |
Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed, it, |
Wahiduddin Khan |
He who purifies it will indeed be successful, |

|
ﭵ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸﭹ
Transliteration |
waqad khaba man dassaha |
|---|---|
Yusuf Ali |
And he fails that corrupts it! |
Saheeh International |
And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. |
Shakir |
And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. |
Daryabadi |
And miserable is he who hath buried it. |
Wahiduddin Khan |
and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. |

Transliteration |
kaththabat thamoodu bitaghwaha |

The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, |
Saheeh International |
Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, |
Shakir |
Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, |
Daryabadi |
Thamud belied in their exorbitance. |
Wahiduddin Khan |
The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, |

|
|
ﭾ ﭿ ﮀﮁ
Transliteration |
ithi inbaAAatha ashqaha |

Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). |
Saheeh International |
When the most wretched of them was sent forth. |
Shakir |
When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with |
Daryabadi |
What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. |
Wahiduddin Khan |
when the most wicked man among them rose up. |

|
|
ﮂ ﮃ ﮄ ﮅ ﮆ ﮇ ﮈﮉ
Transliteration |
faqala lahum rasoolu allahi naqata allahi wasuqyaha |
|---|---|
Yusuf Ali |
But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" |
Saheeh International |
And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." |
Shakir |
So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. |
Daryabadi |
Then the apostle of Allah said Unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. |
Wahiduddin Khan |
Then the messenger of God said to them, ‘This is God’s she-camel. Let her drink.’ |

ﮊ ﮋ ﮌ ﮍ ﮎ ﮏ ﮐﮑ
Transliteration |
fakaththaboohu faAAaqarooha fadamdama AAalayhim rabbuhum bithanbihim fasawwaha |
|---|---|
Yusuf Ali |
Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! |
Saheeh International |
But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. |
Shakir |
But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). |
Daryabadi |
Then they belied him, and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. |
Wahiduddin Khan |
But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. |

Transliteration |
wala yakhafu AAuqbaha |
|---|---|
Yusuf Ali |
And for Him is no fear of its consequences. |
Saheeh International |
And He does not fear the consequence thereof. |
Shakir |
And He fears not its consequence. |
Daryabadi |
And He feared not the consequence thereof |
Wahiduddin Khan |
He did not fear the consequences. |
