    Transliteration

    waalmursalati AAurfan

    Yusuf Ali

    By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit);

    Saheeh International

    By those [winds] sent forth in gusts

    Shakir

    I swear by the emissary winds, sent one after another (for men's benefit),

    Daryabadi

    By the winds sent forth with beneficence.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    By the winds sent forth in swift succession,

    Transliteration

    faalAAasifati AAasfan

    Yusuf Ali

    Which then blow violently in tempestuous Gusts,

    Saheeh International

    And the winds that blow violently

    Shakir

    By the raging hurricanes,

    Daryabadi

    And those raging swiftly;

    Wahiduddin Khan

    and then storming on with a tempest’s force,

    Transliteration

    waalnnashirati nashran

    Yusuf Ali

    And scatter (things) far and wide;

    Saheeh International

    And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]

    Shakir

    Which scatter clouds to their destined places,

    Daryabadi

    By the spreading winds spreading.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    and the rain-spreading winds,

    Transliteration

    faalfariqati farqan

    Yusuf Ali

    Then separate them, one from another,

    Saheeh International

    And those [angels] who bring criterion

    Shakir

    Then separate them one from another,

    Daryabadi

    And the scattering wind scattering.

    separating one from another,

    Transliteration

    faalmulqiyati thikran

    Yusuf Ali

    Then spread abroad a Message,

    Saheeh International

    And those [angels] who deliver a message

    Shakir

    Then I swear by the angels who bring down the revelation,

    And those winds that bring down the remembrance.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    by those who bring down the reminder,

    Whether of Justification or of Warning;-

    Saheeh International

    As justification or warning,

    To clear or to warn.

    Daryabadi

    By way of excuse or warning.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    to excuse some and warn others:

    Transliteration

    innama tooAAadoona lawaqiAAun

    Yusuf Ali

    Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass.

    Saheeh International

    Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.

    Shakir

    Most surely what you are threatened with must come to pass.

    Daryabadi

    Verily that which ye are promised is about to befall.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    that which you have been promised shall be fulfilled.

    Transliteration

    faitha alnnujoomu tumisat

    Yusuf Ali

    Then when the stars become dim;

    Saheeh International

    So when the stars are obliterated

    So when the stars are made to lose their light,

    So when stars are effaced.

    When the stars lose their light,

    waitha alssamao furijat

    When the heaven is cleft asunder;

    Saheeh International

    And when the heaven is opened

    And when the heaven is rent asunder,

    And when the heaven is cloven asunder.

    and when the sky is rent asunder,

    Transliteration

    waitha aljibalu nusifat

    Yusuf Ali

    When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust;

    Saheeh International

    And when the mountains are blown away

    Shakir

    And when the mountains are carried away as dust,

    Daryabadi

    And when the mountains are carried away by wind.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    and when the mountains crumble into dust

    Transliteration

    waitha alrrusulu oqqitat

    Yusuf Ali

    And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect);-

    Saheeh International

    And when the messengers' time has come...

    And when the apostles are gathered at their appointed time

    And when the apostles are collected at the appointed time,

    and when the messengers are brought together at the appointed time—

    For what Day are these (portents) deferred?

    For what Day was it postponed?

    To what day is the doom fixed?

    For what day is it timed?

    for what Day has this been appointed?

    For the Day of Sorting out.

    For the Day of Judgement.

    To the day of decision.

    For the Day of Decision.

    For the Day of Decision.

    Transliteration

    wama adraka ma yawmu alfasli

    Yusuf Ali

    And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out?

    Saheeh International

    And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?

    Shakir

    And what will make you comprehend what the day of decision is?

    Daryabadi

    And what knowest thou what the Day of Decision is?

    Wahiduddin Khan

    What will explain to you what the Day of Judgement is?

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth.

    Transliteration

    alam nuhliki alawwaleena

    Yusuf Ali

    Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)?

    Saheeh International

    Did We not destroy the former peoples?

    Shakir

    Did We not destroy the former generations?

    Daryabadi

    Destroyed We not the ancients?

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Did We not destroy the earlier peoples?

    • ﯮ ﯯ ﯰﯱ

    Transliteration

    thumma nutbiAAuhumu alakhireena

    Yusuf Ali

    So shall We make later (generations) follow them.

    Saheeh International

    Then We will follow them with the later ones.

    Shakir

    Then did We follow them up with later ones.

    Daryabadi

    Thereafter We shall cause to follow them the latter ones.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    We will now cause the later ones to follow them:

    Transliteration

    kathalika nafAAalu bialmujrimeena

    Yusuf Ali

    Thus do We deal with men of sin.

    Saheeh International

    Thus do We deal with the criminals.

    Shakir

    Even thus shall We deal with the guilty.

    Daryabadi

    In this wise We do with the culprits.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    thus do We deal with the culprits.

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Yusuf Ali

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    Transliteration

    alam nakhluqkum min main maheenin

    Yusuf Ali

    Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?-

    Saheeh International

    Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?

    Shakir

    Did We not create you from contemptible water?

    Daryabadi

    Created We you not of water despicable,

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Did We not create you from a humble fluid,

    Transliteration

    fajaAAalnahu fee qararin makeenin

    Yusuf Ali

    The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed,

    Saheeh International

    And We placed it in a firm lodging

    Shakir

    Then We placed it in a secure resting-place,

    Daryabadi

    Which We placed in a depository safe.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    then placed it in a secure repository [the womb],

    Transliteration

    ila qadarin maAAloomin

    Yusuf Ali

    For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)?

    Saheeh International

    For a known extent.

    Shakir

    Till an appointed term,

    Daryabadi

    Till a limit known?

    Wahiduddin Khan

    for an appointed term?

    • ﭠ ﭡ ﭢﭣ

    Transliteration

    faqadarna faniAAma alqadiroona

    Yusuf Ali

    For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things).

    Saheeh International

    And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.

    Shakir

    So We proportion it-- how well are We at proportioning (things).

    Daryabadi

    So We decreed. How excellent are We as decreers!

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Thus We have determined the stages of development and Our power to determine is excellent indeed.

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Yusuf Ali

    Ah woe, that Day! to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Saheeh International

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    Transliteration

    alam najAAali alarda kifatan

    Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together.

    Saheeh International

    Have We not made the earth a container

    Shakir

    Have We not made the earth to draw together to itself,

    Have We not made the earth a receptacle.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Have We not made the earth a receptacle,

    Transliteration

    ahyaan waamwatan

    Yusuf Ali

    The living and the dead,

    Saheeh International

    Of the living and the dead?

    Shakir

    The living and the dead,

    Daryabadi

    Both for the living and the dead,

    for the living and the dead?

    • ﭰ ﭱ ﭲ ﭳ ﭴ ﭵ ﭶﭷ

    Transliteration

    wajaAAalna feeha rawasiya shamikhatin waasqaynakum maan furatan

    Yusuf Ali

    And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?

    Saheeh International

    And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.

    Shakir

    And made therein lofty mountains, and given you to drink of sweet water?

    Daryabadi

    And have placed therein firm and tall mountains and given you to drink of water fresh

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Have We not placed high mountains upon it and given you fresh water to drink?

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Yusuf Ali

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    • ﭼ ﭽ ﭾ ﭿ ﮀ ﮁﮂ

    Transliteration

    intaliqoo ila ma kuntum bihi tukaththiboona

    Yusuf Ali

    (It will be said:) "Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false!

    Saheeh International

    [They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.

    Shakir

    Walk on to that which you called a lie.

    Daryabadi

    'Depart Unto that which ye were wont to belie.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Proceed to that which you denied.

    • ﮃ ﮄ ﮅ ﮆ ﮇ ﮈﮉ

    Transliteration

    intaliqoo ila thillin thee thalathi shuAAabin

    Yusuf Ali

    "Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns,

    Saheeh International

    Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns

    Shakir

    Walk on to the covering having three branches,

    Daryabadi

    Depart Unto the shadow three branched:

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Proceed to a shadow rising in three columns:

    • ﮊ ﮋ ﮌ ﮍ ﮎ ﮏﮐ

    Transliteration

    la thaleelin wala yughnee mina allahabi

    Yusuf Ali

    "(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze.

    Saheeh International

    [But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."

    Shakir

    Neither having the coolness of the shade nor availing against the flame.

    Daryabadi

    Neither shading nor availing against the flame.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    affording neither shade, nor protection from the flames,

    • ﮑ ﮒ ﮓ ﮔﮕ

    Transliteration

    innaha tarmee bishararin kaalqasri

    Yusuf Ali

    "Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts,

    Saheeh International

    Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,

    Shakir

    Surely it sends up sparks like palaces,

    Daryabadi

    Verily it shall cast forth sparks like Unto a castle.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    and throwing up sparks as huge as towers

    • ﮖ ﮗ ﮘﮙ

    Transliteration

    kaannahu jimalatun sufrun

    Yusuf Ali

    "As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly)."

    Saheeh International

    As if they were yellowish [black] camels.

    Shakir

    As if they were tawny camels.

    Daryabadi

    As though they were camels yellow tawny.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    and as bright as a herd of yellow camels.

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Saheeh International

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    Transliteration

    hatha yawmu la yantiqoona

    Yusuf Ali

    That will be a Day when they shall not be able to speak.

    Saheeh International

    This is a Day they will not speak,

    Shakir

    This is the day on which they shall not speak,

    Daryabadi

    This is a Day whereon they shall not be able to speak.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    On that Day they will be speechless,

    Transliteration

    wala yuthanu lahum fayaAAtathiroona

    Yusuf Ali

    Nor will it be open to them to put forth pleas.

    Saheeh International

    Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.

    Shakir

    And permission shall not be given to them so that they should offer excuses.

    Daryabadi

    Nor shall they be permitted so that they might excuse themselves.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    nor shall they be permitted to offer excuses.

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Yusuf Ali

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Saheeh International

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Shakir

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Daryabadi

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    • ﮬ ﮭ ﮮﮯ ﮰ ﮱﯓ

    Transliteration

    hatha yawmu alfasli jamaAAnakum waalawwaleena

    Yusuf Ali

    That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)!

    Saheeh International

    This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.

    Shakir

    This is the day of decision: We have gathered you and those of yore.

    Daryabadi

    This is the Day of Decision, We have assembled both ye and the ancients.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    This is the Day of Judgement. We have assembled you all together with past generations.

    • ﯔ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘﯙ

    Transliteration

    fain kana lakum kaydun fakeedooni

    Yusuf Ali

    Now, if ye have a trick (or plot), use it against Me!

    Saheeh International

    So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.

    Shakir

    So if you have a plan, plan against Me (now).

    Daryabadi

    If now ye have any craft, try that craft upon Me.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    If now you have any strategy, use it against Me.

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Yusuf Ali

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Saheeh International

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Shakir

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Daryabadi

    Woe on the day Unto the beliers!

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    • ﯞ ﯟ ﯠ ﯡ ﯢﯣ

    Transliteration

    inna almuttaqeena fee thilalin waAAuyoonin

    Yusuf Ali

    As to the Righteous, they shall be amidst (cool) shades and springs (of water).

    Saheeh International

    Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

    Shakir

    Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be amid shades and fountains,

    Daryabadi

    Verily the God-fearing shall be amid shades and springs,

    Wahiduddin Khan

    The righteous shall dwell amidst cool shades and fountains,

    • ﯤ ﯥ ﯦﯧ

    Transliteration

    wafawakiha mimma yashtahoona

    Yusuf Ali

    And (they shall have) fruits,- all they desire.

    Saheeh International

    And fruits from whatever they desire,

    Shakir

    And fruits such as they desire.

    Daryabadi

    And fruits such as they shall desire.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    and shall have fruits such as they desire;

    • ﯨ ﯩ ﯪ ﯫ ﯬ ﯭﯮ

    Transliteration

    kuloo waishraboo haneean bima kuntum taAAmaloona

    Yusuf Ali

    "Eat ye and drink ye to your heart's content: for that ye worked (Righteousness).

    Saheeh International

    [Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

    Shakir

    Eat and drink pleasantly because of what you did.

    Daryabadi

    'Eat and drink with relish that which ye have been working.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    [They will be told], ‘Eat and drink with relish in return for what you did [in life]:

    • ﯯ ﯰ ﯱ ﯲﯳ

    Transliteration

    inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena

    Yusuf Ali

    Thus do We certainly reward the Doers of Good.

    Saheeh International

    Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

    Shakir

    Surely thus do We reward the doers of good.

    Daryabadi

    Verily We! in this wise We recompense the well-doers.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    this is how We reward those who do good.’

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Yusuf Ali

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Saheeh International

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Shakir

    Woe on that day to the rejecters.

    Daryabadi

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Wahiduddin Khan

    [But] woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    • ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ ﯻ ﯼﯽ

    Transliteration

    kuloo watamattaAAoo qaleelan innakum mujrimoona

    Yusuf Ali

    (O ye unjust!) Eat ye and enjoy yourselves (but) a little while, for that ye are Sinners.

    Saheeh International

    [O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.

    Shakir

    Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little; surely you are guilty.

    Daryabadi

    'Eat and enjoy a little; verily ye are culprits.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    Eat [your fill] and enjoy your life for a little while, O you who are lost in sin.

    Transliteration

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth!

    Transliteration

    waitha qeela lahumu irkaAAoo la yarkaAAoona

    Yusuf Ali

    And when it is said to them, "Prostrate yourselves!" they do not so.

    Saheeh International

    And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.

    Shakir

    And where it is said to them: Bow down, they do not bow down.

    Daryabadi

    And when it is said Unto them: 'bow down, they bow not down.

    Wahiduddin Khan

    When they are bidden to bow down, they do not bow down.

    waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

    Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

    Woe on that day Unto the beliers!

    Then what Message, after that, will they believe in?

    Then in what statement after the Qur'an will they believe?

    In what announcement, then, after it, will they believe?

    In what discourse, then, after it, will they believe?

    In which word then, after this, will they believe?
