38:1

ﭑﭒ ﭓ ﭔ ﭕﭖ

Transliteration	sad waalqurani thee alththikri
Yusuf Ali	Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth).
Saheeh International	Sad. By the Qur'an containing reminder...
Shakir	Suad, I swear by the Quran, full of admonition.
Daryabadi	Sad. By the Qur'an full of admonition.
Wahiduddin Khan	Sad. By the Quran, full of admonition!

38:2

ﭗ ﭘ ﭙ ﭚ ﭛ ﭜﭝ

Transliteration	bali allatheena kafaroo fee AAizzatin washiqaqin
Yusuf Ali	But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism.
Saheeh International	But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.
Shakir	Nay! those who disbelieve are in self-exaltation and opposition.
Daryabadi	Verily those who disbelieve are in vainglory and shism.
Wahiduddin Khan	Those who deny the truth are steeped in arrogance and hostility.

38:3

ﭞ ﭟ ﭠ ﭡ ﭢ ﭣ ﭤ ﭥ ﭦ ﭧﭨ

Transliteration	kam ahlakna min qablihim min qarnin fanadaw walata heena manasin
Yusuf Ali	How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy)- when there was no longer time for being saved!
Saheeh International	How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.
Shakir	How many did We destroy before them of the generations, then they cried while the time of escaping had passed away.
Daryabadi	How many a generation have We destroyed afore them, and they cried when there was not time of fleeing.
Wahiduddin Khan	How many generations We have destroyed before them! And they cried out when it was too late to escape.

38:4

ﭩ ﭪ ﭫ ﭬ ﭭﭮ ﭯ ﭰ ﭱ ﭲ ﭳﭴ

Transliteration	waAAajiboo an jaahum munthirun minhum waqala alkafiroona hatha sahirun kaththabun
Yusuf Ali	So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies!
Saheeh International	And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar.
Shakir	And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say: This is an enchanter, a liar.
Daryabadi	And they marvel that there should come Unto them a warner from among themselves. And the infidels say: this is a magician and a liar!
Wahiduddin Khan	They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. They say, ‘This is a magician, a great liar.

38:5

ﭵ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸﭹ ﭺ ﭻ ﭼ ﭽﭾ

Transliteration	ajaAAala alalihata ilahan wahidan inna hatha lashayon AAujabun
Yusuf Ali	"Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!"
Saheeh International	Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing."
Shakir	What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure!
Daryabadi	Maketh he the gods One God? Verily that is a thing astounding!
Wahiduddin Khan	Does he make all the deities out to be one God? This is indeed a strange thing.’

38:6

ﭿ ﮀ ﮁ ﮂ ﮃ ﮄ ﮅ ﮆﮇ ﮈ ﮉ ﮊ ﮋﮌ

Transliteration	waintalaqa almalao minhum ani imshoo waisbiroo AAala alihatikum inna hatha lashayon yuradu
Yusuf Ali	And the leader among them go away (impatiently), (saying), "Walk ye away, and remain constant to your gods! For this is truly a thing designed (against you)!
Saheeh International	And the eminent among them went forth, [saying], "Continue, and be patient over [the defense of] your gods. Indeed, this is a thing intended.
Shakir	And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after.
Daryabadi	The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed.
Wahiduddin Khan	Their leaders departed, saying, ‘Walk away! Hold fast to your deities. This is clearly a conspiracy.

38:7

ﮍ ﮎ ﮏ ﮐ ﮑ ﮒ ﮓ ﮔ ﮕ ﮖﮗ

Transliteration	ma samiAAna bihatha fee almillati alakhirati in hatha illa ikhtilaqun
Yusuf Ali	"We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!"
Saheeh International	We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication.
Shakir	We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery:
Daryabadi	We heard not thereof in the later faith; this is naught but an invention.
Wahiduddin Khan	We have not heard of any such thing in the old religion. This is nothing but a fabrication.

38:8

ﮘ ﮙ ﮚ ﮛ ﮜﮝ ﮞ ﮟ ﮠ ﮡ ﮢ ﮣﮤ ﮥ ﮦ ﮧ ﮨﮩ

Transliteration	aonzila AAalayhi alththikru min baynina bal hum fee shakkin min thikree bal lamma yathooqoo AAathabi
Yusuf Ali	"What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment!
Saheeh International	Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
Shakir	Has the reminder been revealed to him from among us? Nay! they are in doubt as to My reminder. Nay! they have not yet tasted My chastisement!
Daryabadi	Hath Unto him the admonition been sent down from amongst us! Yea! they are in doubt concerning My admonition. Yea! they have not yet tasted My torment.
Wahiduddin Khan	Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?’ In fact, they doubt My warning; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment.

38:9

ﮪ ﮫ ﮬ ﮭ ﮮ ﮯ ﮰﮱ

Transliteration	am AAindahum khazainu rahmati rabbika alAAazeezi alwahhabi
Yusuf Ali	Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord,- the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure?
Saheeh International	Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?
Shakir	Or is it that they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the great Giver?
Daryabadi	Or, are with them the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Bestower?
Wahiduddin Khan	Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the Great Bestower?

38:10

ﯓ ﯔ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘ ﯙﯚ ﯛ ﯜ ﯝﯞ

Transliteration	am lahum mulku alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma falyartaqoo fee alasbabi
Yusuf Ali	Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)!
Saheeh International	Or is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend through [any] ways of access.
Shakir	Or is it that theirs is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend by any
Daryabadi	Or, is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and that which is in-between the twain? If so, let them ascend by steps.
Wahiduddin Khan	Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes:

38:11

ﯟ ﯠ ﯡ ﯢ ﯣ ﯤﯥ

Transliteration	jundun ma hunalika mahzoomun mina alahzabi
Yusuf Ali	But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates.
Saheeh International	[They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].
Shakir	A host of deserters of the allies shall be here put to flight.
Daryabadi	Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated.
Wahiduddin Khan	this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat.

38:12

ﯦ ﯧ ﯨ ﯩ ﯪ ﯫ ﯬ ﯭﯮ

Transliteration	kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohin waAAadun wafirAAawnu thoo alawtadi
Yusuf Ali	Before them (were many who) rejected messengers,- the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes,
Saheeh International	The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes,
Shakir	The people of Nuh and Ad, and Firon, the lord of spikes, rejected (apostles) before them.
Daryabadi	Before them there have belied the people of Nuh and the 'Aad, and Fir'awn the owner of the stakes.
Wahiduddin Khan	Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the ‘Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes,

38:13

ﯯ ﯰ ﯱ ﯲ ﯳﯴ ﯵ ﯶﯷ

Transliteration	wathamoodu waqawmu lootin waashabu alaykati olaika alahzabu
Yusuf Ali	And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates.
Saheeh International	And [the tribe of] Thamud and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket. Those are the companies.
Shakir	And Samood and the people of Lut and the dwellers of the thicket; these were the parties.
Daryabadi	And the Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the dwellers of the wood; these were the confederates.
Wahiduddin Khan	and the tribe of Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the Wood—these were the confederates.

38:14

ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ ﯻ ﯼ ﯽ ﯾﯿ

Transliteration	in kullun illa kaththaba alrrusula fahaqqa AAiqabi
Yusuf Ali	Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them).
Saheeh International	Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified.
Shakir	There was none of them but called the apostles liars, so just was My retribution.
Daryabadi	There was not one but belied the apostles, wherefore justified was My wrath.
Wahiduddin Khan	There was not one of them but treated their messengers as liars, so My punishment rightly overtook them:

38:15

ﰀ ﰁ ﰂ ﰃ ﰄ ﰅ ﰆ ﰇ ﰈ ﰉﰊ

Transliteration	wama yanthuru haolai illa sayhatan wahidatan ma laha min fawaqin
Yusuf Ali	These (today) only wait for a single mighty Blast, which (when it comes) will brook no delay.
Saheeh International	And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay.
Shakir	Nor do these await aught but a single cry, there being no delay in it.
Daryabadi	And these wait but for one shout, wherefrom there will be no deferment.
Wahiduddin Khan	they have only to wait for one single blast [of punishment]: it shall not be delayed by one whit.

38:16

ﰋ ﰌ ﰍ ﰎ ﰏ ﰐ ﰑ ﰒﰓ

Transliteration	waqaloo rabbana AAajjil lana qittana qabla yawmi alhisabi
Yusuf Ali	They say: "Our Lord! hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!"
Saheeh International	And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account"
Shakir	And they say: O our Lord! hasten on to us our portion before the day of reckoning.
Daryabadi	And they say: our Lord! hasten our portion unto us before the Day of Reckoning
Wahiduddin Khan	They say: ‘Our Lord! Hasten on for us our fate before the Day of Reckoning.’

38:17

ﭑ ﭒ ﭓ ﭔ ﭕ ﭖ ﭗ ﭘ ﭙﭚ ﭛ ﭜﭝ

Transliteration	isbir AAala ma yaqooloona waothkur AAabdana dawooda tha alaydi innahu awwabun
Yusuf Ali	Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah).
Saheeh International	Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allah].
Shakir	Bear patiently what they say, and remember Our servant Dawood, the possessor of power; surely he was frequent in returning (to Allah).
Daryabadi	Bear thou with that which they say, and remember Our bondman, Da-ud, endured with strength; verily he was oft-returning onto Us.
Wahiduddin Khan	Bear with their words patiently. Remember Our servant David, a man of strength who always turned to Us:

38:18

ﭞ ﭟ ﭠ ﭡ ﭢ ﭣ ﭤﭥ

Transliteration	inna sakhkharna aljibala maAAahu yusabbihna bialAAashiyyi waalishraqi
Yusuf Ali	It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day,
Saheeh International	Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allah] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise.
Shakir	Surely We made the mountains to sing the glory (of Allah) in unison with him at the evening and the sunrise,
Daryabadi	Verily We so subjected the mountains that they should hallow Us with him at nightfall and sunrise.
Wahiduddin Khan	We made the mountains join him in glorifying Us at sunset and sunrise;

38:19

ﭦ ﭧﭨ ﭩ ﭪ ﭫﭬ

Transliteration	waalttayra mahshooratan kullun lahu awwabun
Yusuf Ali	And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah).
Saheeh International	And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises].
Shakir	And the birds gathered together; all joined in singing with him.
Daryabadi	And the birds also, gathering all oft-returning onto Him on his account.
Wahiduddin Khan	and the birds, too, in flocks, all turned to Him.

38:20

ﭭ ﭮ ﭯ ﭰ ﭱ ﭲﭳ

Transliteration	washadadna mulkahu waataynahu alhikmata wafasla alkhitabi
Yusuf Ali	We strengthened his kingdom, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision.
Saheeh International	And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.
Shakir	And We strengthened his kingdom and We gave him wisdom and a clear judgment.
Daryabadi	And We made his dominion strong and vouchsafed him wisdom and decisive speech.
Wahiduddin Khan	We made his kingdom strong, and bestowed upon him wisdom and sagacity in judgement.

38:21

ﭴ ﭵ ﭶ ﭷ ﭸ ﭹ ﭺ ﭻﭼ

Transliteration	wahal ataka nabao alkhasmi ith tasawwaroo almihraba
Yusuf Ali	Has the Story of the Disputants reached thee? Behold, they climbed over the wall of the private chamber;
Saheeh International	And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber -
Shakir	And has there come to you the story of the litigants, when they made an entry into the private chamber by ascending over the walls?
Daryabadi	And hath the tidings of the contending parties reached thee, when they walled the apartment?
Wahiduddin Khan	Have you heard the story of the disputants who entered his chamber by climbing over the wall?

38:22

ﭽ ﭾ ﭿ ﮀ ﮁ ﮂﮃ ﮄ ﮅ ﮆﮇ ﮈ ﮉ ﮊ ﮋ ﮌ ﮍ ﮎ ﮏ ﮐ ﮑ ﮒ ﮓ ﮔ ﮕﮖ

Transliteration	ith dakhaloo AAala dawooda fafaziAAa minhum qaloo la takhaf khasmani bagha baAAduna AAala baAAdin faohkum baynana bialhaqqi wala tushtit waihdina ila sawai alssirati
Yusuf Ali	When they entered the presence of David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: we are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: Decide now between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path..
Saheeh International	When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path.
Shakir	When they entered in upon Dawood and he was frightened at them, they said: Fear not; two litigants, of whom one has acted wrongfully towards the other, therefore decide between us with justice, and do not act unjustly, and guide us to the right way.
Daryabadi	When they went in unto Da-ud, he was frightened at them. They said: fear not we are two contending parties; one of us hath oppressed the other, so judge between us with truth, and be not iniquitious, and guide us unto the even path.
Wahiduddin Khan	When they reached David, he took fright, but they said, ‘Do not be afraid. We are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: judge between us fairly—do not be unjust—and guide us to the right path.

38:23

ﮗ ﮘ ﮙ ﮚ ﮛ ﮜ ﮝ ﮞ ﮟ ﮠ ﮡ ﮢ ﮣ ﮤ ﮥﮦ

Transliteration	inna hatha akhee lahu tisAAun watisAAoona naAAjatan waliya naAAjatun wahidatun faqala akfilneeha waAAazzanee fee alkhitabi
Yusuf Ali	"This man is my brother: He has nine and ninety ewes, and I have (but) one: Yet he says, 'commit her to my care,' and is (moreover) harsh to me in speech."
Saheeh International	Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech."
Shakir	Surely this is my brother; he has ninety-nine ewes and I have a single ewe; but he said: Make it over to me, and he has prevailed against me in discourse.
Daryabadi	Verily this my brother hath nine and ninety ewes while I have one ewe; and he saith: entrust it to me, and he hath prevailed upon me in speech.
Wahiduddin Khan	‘This brother of mine has ninety-nine ewes and I have only one. He said, “Let me have charge of it,” and got the better of me with his words.’

38:24

ﮧ ﮨ ﮩ ﮪ ﮫ ﮬ ﮭﮮ ﮯ ﮰ ﮱ ﯓ ﯔ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘ ﯙ ﯚ ﯛ ﯜ ﯝ ﯞ ﯟﯠ ﯡ ﯢ ﯣ ﯤ ﯥ ﯦ ﯧ ﯨ ﯩﯪﯫ

Transliteration	qala laqad thalamaka bisuali naAAjatika ila niAAajihi wainna katheeran mina alkhulatai layabghee baAAduhum AAala baAAdin illa allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati waqaleelun ma hum wathanna dawoodu annama fatannahu faistaghfara rabbahu wakharra rakiAAan waanaba
Yusuf Ali	(David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"... and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance).
Saheeh International	[David] said, "He has certainly wronged you in demanding your ewe [in addition] to his ewes. And indeed, many associates oppress one another, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds - and few are they." And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allah].
Shakir	He said: Surely he has been unjust to you in demanding your ewe (to add) to his own ewes; and most surely most of the partners act wrongfully towards one another, save those who believe and do good, and very few are they; and Dawood was sure that We had tried him, so he sought the protection of his Lord and he fell down bowing and turned time after time (to Him).
Daryabadi	Da-ud said: assuredly he hath wronged thee in demanding thine ewe in addition to his ewes, and verily many of the partners oppress each other save such as believe and work righteous works, and few are they. And Da-ud imagined that We had tried him; so he asked forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down bowing and turned in penitence.
Wahiduddin Khan	David said, ‘He has certainly wronged you by demanding that your ewe be added to his ewes! Thus many partners wrong one another—[all] save those who believe [in God] and do righteous deeds: but how few are they!’ And [suddenly] David understood that We were only putting him to the test, and so he asked his Lord to forgive him his sins; he fell to his knees, and turned to Him in repentance.

38:25

ﯬ ﯭ ﯮﯯ ﯰ ﯱ ﯲ ﯳ ﯴ ﯵﯶ

Transliteration	faghafarna lahu thalika wainna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maabin
Yusuf Ali	So We forgave him this (lapse): he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful place of (Final) Return.
Saheeh International	So We forgave him that; and indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return.
Shakir	Therefore We rectified for him this, and most surely he had a nearness to Us and an excellent resort.
Daryabadi	So We forgave him that; and verily for him is an approach with us, and a happy retreat.
Wahiduddin Khan	We forgave him his sins. His reward will be nearness to Us, a good place to return to.

38:26

ﯷ ﯸ ﯹ ﯺ ﯻ ﯼ ﯽ ﯾ ﯿ ﰀ ﰁ ﰂ ﰃ ﰄ ﰅ ﰆ ﰇﰈ ﰉ ﰊ ﰋ ﰌ ﰍ ﰎ ﰏ ﰐ ﰑ ﰒ ﰓ ﰔ ﰕﰖ

Transliteration	ya dawoodu inna jaAAalnaka khaleefatan fee alardi faohkum bayna alnnasi bialhaqqi wala tattabiAAi alhawa fayudillaka AAan sabeeli allahi inna allatheena yadilloona AAan sabeeli allahi lahum AAathabun shadeedun bima nasoo yawma alhisabi
Yusuf Ali	O David! We did indeed make thee a vicegerent on earth: so judge thou between men in truth (and justice): Nor follow thou the lusts (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path of Allah: for those who wander astray from the Path of Allah, is a Penalty Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account.
Saheeh International	[We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allah will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.
Shakir	o Dawood! surely We have made you a ruler in the land; so judge between men with justice and do not follow desire, lest it should lead you astray from the path of Allah; (as for) those who go astray from the path of Allah, they shall surely have a severe punishment because they forgot the day of reckoning.
Daryabadi	O Da-ud! verily We have appointed thee a vicegerent in the earth, so judge between mankind with truth, and follow not desire, lest it cause thee to err from the path of Allah. Verily those who err from the path of Allah - Unto them shall be a severe torment, for they forgat the Day of Reckoning.
Wahiduddin Khan	We said, ‘David, We have given you mastery over the land. Judge fairly between people. Do not follow your desires, lest they divert you from God’s path: those who wander from His path will have a severe punishment, because they ignore the Day of Reckoning.’
