We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,- |

Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars |

Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars, |

Verily We! We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment: the stars. |

We have adorned the lowest heaven with the beauty of the planets; |

wahifthan min kulli shaytanin maridin |

(For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits, |

And as protection against every rebellious devil |

And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Shaitan. |

And have placed therein a guard against any Satan froward. |

and guarded it against all rebellious devils: |

la yassammaAAoona ila almalai alaAAla wayuqthafoona min kulli janibin |

(So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side, |

[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side, |

They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side, |

They cannot listen to the exalted assembly, and they are darted at from every side. |

they cannot overhear the Higher Assembly for they are pelted from every side, |

|

duhooran walahum AAathabun wasibun |

Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty, |

Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment, |

Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement, |

With a driving fusillade, and theirs shall be a torment perpetual; |

driven away, and will suffer eternal punishment. |

illa man khatifa alkhatfata faatbaAAahu shihabun thaqibun |

Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness. |

Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness]. |

Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining flame. |

Except him who snatcheth away a word by stealth, and him then pursueth a glowing flame. |

But if anyone does succeed in snatching a glimpse [of such knowledge], he shall be pursued by a piercing flame. |

faistaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqna inna khalaqnahum min teenin lazibin |

Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay! |
Saheeh International |
Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay. |
Shakir |
Then ask them whether they are stronger in creation or those (others) whom We have created. Surely We created them of firm clay. |
Daryabadi |
Ask them thou: are they stronger in structure or those others whom We have created? Verily We! We have created them of a sticky clay. |

So, ask those who deny the truth if it was harder to create them than all the other things We have created? We created them from sticky clay. |

Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule, |

But you wonder, while they mock, |

No wonder you are surprised as they laugh with scorn. |

waitha thukkiroo la yathkuroona |

And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,- |

And when they are reminded, they remember not. |

waqaloo in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun |

And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery! |

And say, "This is not but obvious magic. |

And they say: This is nothing but clear magic: |

And they say: this Qur'an is naught but magic manifest. |

saying, ‘This is plain sorcery!’ |

"What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again) |

When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? |

What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then certainly be raised, |

When we have become dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then verily be raised? |

‘What! When we have died and become dust and bones, will we be brought back to life again, |

Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible." |

Say: Aye! and you shall be abject. |

Say thou: and verily ye; shall then be despicable. |

Say, ‘Yes indeed, and you will be brought low.’ |

fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun faitha hum yanthuroona |

Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see! |

It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing. |

So it shall only be a single cry, when lo! they shall see. |

It shall be but one shout, lo! they shall be staring. |

There will be but a single blast and then their eyes will open. |

waqaloo ya waylana hatha yawmu alddeeni |

They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!" |

They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense." |

And they shall say: O woe to us! this is the day of requital. |

And they will say: Ah! woe be Unto us! this is the Day of Requital. |

They will say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Reckoning.’ |

hatha yawmu alfasli allathee kuntum bihi tukaththiboona |

(A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!" |

[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny." |

This is the day of the judgment which you called a lie. |

This is the Day of Judgment which ye were wont to belie. |

[It will be said], ‘This is the Day of Judgement which you have been denying.’ |

ohshuroo allatheena thalamoo waazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoona |

"Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- |

[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship |

Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship |

Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship |

But We shall say, ‘Assemble those who did wrong together with their associates and what they worshipped |

min dooni allahi faihdoohum ila sirati aljaheemi |

"Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! |

Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire |

Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. |

Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. |

“But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?”’— |

Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); |

But they, that Day, are in surrender. |

Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. |

Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. |

indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. |

waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona |

And they will turn to one another, and question one another. |

And they will approach one another blaming each other. |

And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. |

And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. |

They will turn upon one another, and question one another. |

They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" |

They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." |

They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. |

They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come Unto us Imposing. |

They will say, ‘You used to come at us from the right.’ |

They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! |

The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, |

They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; |

They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. |

They will say, ‘No! It was you who would not believe— |

wama kana lana AAalaykum min sultanin bal kuntum qawman tagheena |

"Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! |

And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. |

And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; |

And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. |

we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. |

fahaqqa AAalayna qawlu rabbina inna lathaiqoona |

"So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). |

So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. |

So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; |
Daryabadi |
So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. |

But now our Lord’s word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. |

faaghwaynakum inna kunna ghaweena |

"We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." |
Saheeh International |
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." |

So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. |

We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. |

We led you astray as we were ourselves astray.’ |

fainnahum yawmaithin fee alAAathabi mushtarikoona |

Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. |

So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. |

So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. |

So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. |

On that Day they will all share the punishment: |

inna kathalika nafAAalu bialmujrimeena |

Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. |

Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. |

Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. |

Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. |

that is how We deal with evil-doers. |

|
|
|
ﮒ ﮓ ﮔ ﮕ ﮖ ﮗ ﮘ ﮙ ﮚ ﮛﮜ

innahum kanoo itha qeela lahum la ilaha illa allahu yastakbiroona |

Yusuf Ali |
For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, |
Saheeh International |
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant |
Shakir |
Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; |
Daryabadi |
Verily when it was said Unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. |
Wahiduddin Khan |
When they were told, ‘There is no deity but God,’ they turned away with disdain, |

|
|
|
ﮝ ﮞ ﮟ ﮠ ﮡ ﮢﮣ

wayaqooloona ainna latarikoo alihatina lishaAAirin majnoonin |

Yusuf Ali |
And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" |
Saheeh International |
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" |
Shakir |
And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? |
Daryabadi |
And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a Poet distracted? |
Wahiduddin Khan |
and replied, ‘Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?’ |

|
|
|
|
|
ﮤ ﮥ ﮦ ﮧ ﮨﮩ
Transliteration |
bal jaa bialhaqqi wasaddaqa almursaleena |
|---|---|
Yusuf Ali |
Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). |
Saheeh International |
Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. |
Shakir |
Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. |
Daryabadi |
Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. |
Wahiduddin Khan |
‘Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; |

|
|
|
|
ﮪ ﮫ ﮬ ﮭﮮ

innakum lathaiqoo alAAathabi alaleemi |

Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- |
Saheeh International |
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, |
Shakir |
Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. |

Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. |

you shall surely taste the painful punishment, |

|
ﮯ ﮰ ﮱ ﯓ ﯔ ﯕﯖ
Transliteration |
wama tujzawna illa ma kuntum taAAmaloona |

But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- |

And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - |

And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. |

And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; |

and be rewarded only according to your deeds.’ |

There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. |

No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith Inebriated. |

And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, |

And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large- eyed |
